Give “maintenance” a clear meaning
Providers use the word differently. Ask for an actual list of tasks, what happens automatically, and what you need to request.
- Content changes: opening hours, services, prices, photos, team details, and seasonal notices.
- Customer checks: test important links, contact forms, booking paths, and the mobile layout after a change.
- Technical upkeep: hosting, HTTPS, backups, and software updates where the platform requires them.
- Renewals: domain registration, hosting, and any paid themes, tools, or subscriptions the site depends on.
A text correction and a new booking system are different jobs. Describe the outcome you want so the provider can confirm whether it fits the plan or needs a separate quote. Our feature examples can help you explain an idea.
Keep access and a way back
Know who owns the domain, where the website runs, and who can approve changes. Keep account recovery details current and use individual access where available. A website file export may not include bookings, form history, or other data held by a separate service.
Before a significant update, agree what will be backed up, who can restore it, and what a restore would include. Test changes in a separate preview when the platform supports it. Then check the live page, forms, links, and phone layout. A backup is most useful when there is a practical restore plan.
When changing providers, agree the hosting end date, file and data handoff, licence limits, and replacement arrangements before closing accounts. Keep domain and business email changes coordinated so a website move does not accidentally interrupt another service.
Ask a few questions before choosing care
- Which updates are included, and how is time measured?
- What is the reply target, and how are urgent problems handled?
- Which subscriptions and renewals are separate?
- How are bigger changes quoted and approved?
- What happens to access, hosting, and your files if you leave?
Our optional care for websites we build
For a new website delivered through our standard build package, optional care is $99 per month. It includes hosting, HTTPS, backup copies before changes, and up to 30 minutes of small content updates each month. Unused time does not roll over; larger changes are quoted first.
Care begins at launch only with your separate approval of the start date and billing terms. We aim to reply within two business days. Cancel before the next renewal to stop future charges; service continues through the paid period. Domain costs are separate. See the care and handoff terms.
Already have a website built elsewhere?
We’re happy to review it. Compatibility, access, existing software, and licences affect what we can support. Updates, maintenance, refreshes, and redesigns for an existing third-party site need a separate proposal. The $99 care option is not a universal maintenance or remodeling rate.
Sending an inquiry does not start a subscription or authorize work. Already a customer? Use My website to keep your update request with the project. Unsure whether small changes are enough? Our improve-or-rebuild guide is a useful starting point.
